| Newsletter - Spring 2006
Dear
friends,
First of all a confession.
I've never written one of these before, so bear
with me since I'm making this up as I go along.
Luckily the basic concept of a newsletter, from
what people have told me, is pretty simple.
The clue's sort of in the name!
Don't worry, this will only be a periodic affair
- I don't intend to spam you! But now seems
like the right time to put finger to keyboard
for the first time since the last few months
have been pretty busy and the next few promise
to be even more so:
First, the
next instalment in Tom Kirk's adventures, The
Black Sun, is only a few weeks away from
publication (3rd April). I'm really excited
at the thought of seeing it in the shops and
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed
writing it.
Second, thanks to you, The
Double Eagle has had a fantastic run over
the past twelve months, selling over 100,000
copies in the UK alone and still rising. Apparently
that officially makes it a bestseller!
Third, Harper Collins have offered me another
contract, which means you will get to see Tom
Kirk in action for at least another two books.
You'll be pleased to know I'm already hard at
work on Book 3 which is provisionally named
The Napoleon Seal, although I expect
my publishers will change it. They always do!
In case you're interested, I've provided a bit
more detail on these and a few other stories
below, including details of how you
can win an invite to the official UK launch
party of The Black Sun.
I'm doing a couple of panel events at the forthcoming
"Left Coast Crime" conference in Bristol on
the 18th and 19th March and it would be great
to see you there if you're planning to get down
to it. Do also check out my website
(http://www.jamestwining.com/index.htm)
where I've added a whole new section on The
Black Sun and which I keep updated with
details of speaker events, radio/TV interviews,
signings etc.
Finally, a quick word to thank everyone who
has written to me over the last few months to
share their enjoyment of The Double Eagle
and Tom and Jennifer's adventure. One of the
most rewarding things about being a writer is
hearing from your readers, so thank you all
for your kind words and support and encouragement.
It's really appreciated.
Best wishes and happy reading
P.S. Also just wanted to share the happy news
that I've just found out I'm going to be a father
again! More sleepless nights ... |

| Launch of The Black Sun on 3rd April 2006 |
 |
The Black Sun finally
hits the shops in April and I have five invites (x
2 people) to the official launch party in London
on the evening of 10th April to give away. If
you're interested in coming along drop me a line
(mail@jamestwining.com) and I'll put your names
into the hat for the big draw on 31st March. I'll contact the winners
with all the necessary details on the 3rd April.
No reviews out yet for The Black Sun apart
from a great endorsement by Jack Higgins, author
of The Eagle has Landed, who said
"A reformed legendary
art-thief, Tom Kirk, bursts onto the scene like
a modern-day Raffles with a gun in his pocket.
An anti-hero who can be worse than the bad guys
when necessary. A story that harks back to the
Nazis, Hitler, and a legendary treasure. What
more could you want? If there's a better thriller
this year I would like to see it."
As you may have noticed, it has a slightly different
cover in the UK from the version that has already
been published in Australia/NZ. Do have a look at the
website which has details of all the history,
people, places and art that feature in the book. |

| The Double Eagle is a bestseller |
 |
Thanks to you, The
Double Eagle is now officially a bestseller,
having sold over 100,000 copies in the UK alone
and still rising.
Over the last few months it has featured in the
top ten of all the major retailers including WH
Smith (6), Tesco (8), Asda (6), Woolworths (3)
and even got to No. 1 in Moto Service Stations.
Don't laugh - it all counts! April also sees the
start of a major new promotion with The Times
newspaper through which The Double Eagle will
be available for 99p from WH Smiths for a limited
period.
The exciting news is that in the midst of all
this, Harper Collins UK have offered me another
contract which means that Tom gets to fight on
in at least another two adventures, which is fantastic.
I'm already hard at work on Book 3, which sees
Jennifer back in the picture and Tom locking horns
with a new adversary.

| US Book
Tour |
|
And
finally ... rights news |
|
|
|
In the last few months Spanish language rights
to both TDE and TBS have been sold to Plaza y
Janes and large print and audio rights to WF Howes.
Readers Digest have also bought condensation rights
for TBS in the UK and the Asia Pacific region.
Still no movie deal though!! |
| A lot of you have asked
how the book tour went in the US last year. Well,
the answer is really well. I had a fantastic time
promoting The Double Eagle in NYC, Washington
DC, San Francisco and Kentucky and met some great
people, including this happy customer in M is
for Mystery in San Mateo! |
